Remembering William L. Lane (1931–1999)

LaneIt was on this day in 1999 that we lost New Testament scholar William L.  Lane. Lane Taught at SPU, where he was the Paul T. Walls Chair in Wesleyan and Biblical Studies. Before going to SPU he professor of religious studies at Western Kentucky University and professor of New Testament and Judaic studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Lane was also the author of two influential commentaries: Mark (NICNT) and Hebrews (WBC), both of which are still considered to be one of the best on each NT book. His 2 vol. Hebrews commentary is a tour de force and a must have for any serious study of the letter to the Hebrews! So today we remember Dr. Lane and thank God for his life and his commentary on Hebrews.

  1. I’ve been reading the Intro to both his popular and Word commentary on Hebrews. What a combination of scholarship and devotion. Miss him a lot.
